Reflection
Regarding my photo essay honestly growing up as a
minority in America and witnessing various hardships, I wanted to represent
that within this project. As there have been multiple movements contributing to
go against opposing factors towards minorities, this is one of my own so that
people are still aware of the daily struggles.
As
an African American living in America, this was the main influence within my photo
essay. I’m grateful that a platform like a photo essay is a form of art to
really show and represent my culture in a positive. Although many people may
think a culture has to show why they matter, it’s sad that we still live in a world
where showing that you matter must happen. Our country is slowly repeating history
due to racism being at a high. Honestly to me personally, being black is a
gift. No matter who you are or what background one comes from the reality of it
is, all people will see you as is just black. This goes for anyone that you can’t
judge a book by the cover, open it and read what that book is about. Each day I’m
inspired by my culture and those before me who fought to get us where we are
today. My inspiration will always be my culture as we continue to strive
through oppression.
Regarding
to my culture and experiences this that’s the origin of this essay. Acknowledging
the fact that I brought up my culture, that was the idea that was embodied in my
idea. It was always the idea of using myself within to essay to show that I completely
relate to the story that is being narrated. Seeing myself within the photos reflect
the origin of my story. That was always within my mind when I thought of this
idea. The goal was to use my images to
hopefully help others get a glimpse of another culture or so that others of the
same culture relate.
